A little digging unearthed this -

In 1976, Kurt Russell did indeed test for the part of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. along with the likes of William Katt (The Greatest American Hero), Cindy Williams (Amercian Grafitti, Laverne & Shirley), Terri Nunn (lead singer for the 80s band Berlin), Perry King (Riptide, Melrose Place), Charles Martin Smith (American Graffiti, The Buddy Holly Story, Starman), Robbie Benson (Ice Castles), Amy Irving (nominated for an Academy Award for Yentl & wife of Steven Spielberg 85-89), Linda Purl (Mighty Joe Young, Happy Days), Andrew Stevens (Dallas), Frederic Forrest (Apocalypse Now, Valley Girl, Lonesome Dove) as well as many others.

Are we sticking to sries and films that are science fiction based?

Do you receive the British sci-fi series Dr Who?

There hasn't been too many decent sci-fi series or movies released recently, GALAXY QUEST (a la MS. Weaver) is probably the best of a bad bunch.

SOLARIS ( George Clooney) was absolute MR2, the CORE was very average and I am unable (due to not having a satalite dish or cable) to watch the new updates verion of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

One movie I never get fed up watching is BLADE RUNNER, which is amazing.

But some of these movies may have diffierent titles in France. I think I read that THE HORSE WHISPERER was called (translated) THE MAN WHO SPEAKS SOFTLY INTO HORSES EARS?

LG out.

Page 4 you mentionned Jane Fonda.A great woman we were able to see this year during Cannes Festival ( just to honour her father, not for a movie). It makes me think that at this period ( the one you mean page 4) Barbarelle was HER movie ( by her I mean not producin' or X but acting.
Here's Barbarella

The original was directed by Jane Fonda's then-husband Roger Vadim
Sin City director Robert Rodriguez is to make a new film version of cult sci-fi classic Barbarella.

The original film, based on Frenchman Jean-Claude Forest's comic book, starred Jane Fonda as the titular mercenary and intergalactic sex-kitten.

"The possibilities are limitless," said Rodriguez. "I love this iconic character and all that she represents."

Original producer Dino De Laurentiis is in charge of the remake, which is due to be released by Universal next year.

"Barbarella is the ultimate science-fiction adventure heroine - smart, strong and sexy," De Laurentiis said in a statement.

"In our vision, the future is female, and I can't wait to introduce Barbarella to a new generation of moviegoers."

Rodriguez is in Cannes with Quentin Tarantino to promote Grindhouse
Casino Royale screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are working on the script.

The original film was a box office flop but has since achieved cult status, constantly referred to in pop culture.

It was directed by Fonda's then-husband Roger Vadim and became infamous for the opening scene, where Fonda undresses in zero gravity.

Kylie Minogue recreated the iconic sequence in the video for her 1994 single Put Yourself In My Place.

Pop group Duran Duran also named themselves after a character in the film.

Comic reissue

Barbarella first appeared in a French graphic magazine written and illustrated by Jean-Claude Forest in 1962, and her adventures have been published around the world.

De Laurentiis has secured the rights to the cartoon creation from Jean-Claude's son Julien.

The deal will also see the first two Barbarella books be reissued, along with the publication of material previously unreleased in English.

Robert Rodriguez recently collaborated with Quentin Tarantino on the horror movie double-bill Grindhouse.

After disappointing returns at the US box office, the directors will see their movie split in two for the UK.

Tarantino's half, Death Proof, is scheduled to reach cinemas on 21 September. Rodriguez's segment, Planet Terror, is yet to receive a release date.

"In our vision, the future is female."
We can say that's true.Since 1968, a lot of women became famous by being the main character ( ...Ripley! of course I thought to Sigourney Weaver readin' these words! ).

Have to say but, I don't see how Blade Runner can be classed as amatuer.

A most excellent glance into a probable future, embroiled in a Chandleresque crime thriller, what more can one ask for?

I remember Rutger Hauer in a movie with Michelle Pfeiffer : "Hawk" ( okey dokey..not a blockbuster...!) and Joanna Cassidy in..Roger Rabbit ( :biggrin2:).Everybody knows about Daryl so...!!
BR was certainly the 1rst movie to make us think about what you write "a probable future".A great movie we do not see on tv except if we have...its dvd!
When I saw the 5th element I tought right now to BR.
I guess Luc wanted to approach Scott 's universe with his own way to make movies.Similar sequels link both. But Luc's movie 's not so " violent" ( well..if I can use "violent"...:merlot: 'cos that's not) than Ridley's BR.
Ruther Hauer is always and forever the bad guy with his blue eyes..but even if we don't see him a lot I really like him.
Joanna Cassidy...except that younger she was beautiful and except the fact I saw her (only? maybe not ) in Roger...I can't say we see her a lot ( or maybe I don't see all of'em? sure!)

ask someone about Blade Runner and the person will automatically reply " yep! of course I know and a good one !".
I know there is another movie ( Sci-Fi) that made me think to BR ..(but I forgot :faint3: ).

"Minority Report" starring Tom Cruise made me think of BR, but I believe it was written by the same author.

The film with Rutger am]nd Michelle was called (in English) Ladyhawkand he was a good guy, and I think a very young Matthew Brodrick was in it too.

RH played a very good part as Martinin a medi-evil film called Flesh and Bloodalong with the lovely jennifer jason leigh.

http://image.compusa.com/prodimages/1/f93d4c02-407e-4815-895b-5fa65e54dd37.gif

Just read that RH was originally cast to play Robocop but the part went to Peter Weller.

Lady Hawk...it was the name.Well..in a certain way I was not far !I wonder if it 'd have another name? I'll search just to see but I think no

I don't remind Flesh and Blood. I don't have the DVD...but..as you say Jennifer Jason-Leigh is really cute!!

Another colaberation with Rutger and JJL was a scary movie called "The Hitcher", just recently remade with Sean Bean.

JJL is the unfortunate hitch hiker picked up by C Thomas Howell and is tortured and killed, horribly by RH as John Ryder.

Scary yep...but I don't remember if I was really scared.I saw so many scary movies ( :gruik:) that I :merlot: .
RH is perfect to "be" a "bad" guy.It makes me think to late Jack Palance ( in another way of course)
I got goosebumps when I was in fact young but it was with pure horror movies. And now when I see 'em..I just ask myself why I got 'em!of course I was really really young and at this period it was certainly the best with SE!! 'cos 30 years later... !!

Mr Reeves...a good choice for Neo.But...there's no need I begin tto talk about that guy...!! ( :bonk: :biggrin2:)

Just to say, you won't get a lot of laughs on this show.

Calista is a radio based political journalist, her dad runs a family business, but dies leaving cripling debts and the family, led by Sally Field, give up their successful carreers to try and save the company and the employees jobs.

Dad had spent the pension fund!

So, you won't need a girdle to save your sides, but a box of kleenex for the tears!

Being a sci fi lover, I have seen 2001, and Barry Lyndon is a film I should have seen but haven't. I have a list of these movies and surprise myself that I have yet to see them.

To be honest, I probably will never see the Shining, it is probably one of those movies that should have been viewed around the time of it's release, and may well look dated now.

All in all, Kubrick was a master of his craft, as was the late Ingmar Bergman, as stated by you.

He was maybe a victim of his own success, but he certainly knew how to get the best out of his cast, without the need for CGI.
